Building Bridges Between Global Bangladeshis and the Nation They Call Home

ARISE Bangladesh Foundation is a non-profit research and development organization dedicated to connecting the knowledge, expertise, and aspirations of the Bangladeshi diaspora with the evolving needs of Bangladesh. Through evidence-based research, strategic partnerships, policy dialogue, and community engagement, we transform ideas into meaningful action that creates lasting social and economic impact.

We believe that Bangladesh’s greatest global resource is its people. By strengthening connections between Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs), policymakers, academics, professionals, entrepreneurs, and local communities, we create opportunities that benefit both Bangladesh and Bangladeshis around the world.

Our Vision

A Globally Connected Bangladesh Empowered by Knowledge, Innovation, and Shared Prosperity

Our Mission

Turning Research into Action

Our mission is to conduct high-quality research, strengthen institutional partnerships, empower communities, and connect the Bangladeshi diaspora with national development initiatives. Through evidence-based policy recommendations, capacity building, and collaborative programs, we create sustainable solutions that address Bangladesh’s social, economic, and developmental priorities.

Our Core Areas

1

Education, Scholarships & Human Capital

This foundation studies education access gaps in Bangladesh and works to bridge them — with a particular focus on communities connected to the diaspora. It facilitates scholarship programmes, university partnerships, and educational initiatives, bringing NRB educators, academics, and philanthropists into direct connection with students and institutions in Bangladesh who need their support most. The diaspora carries decades of educational experience in world-class institutions. This foundation channels that experience back home.

2

Research, Policy & Knowledge

At the heart of this foundation is rigorous, independent research. It conducts studies, surveys, and policy analyses on Bangladesh’s most pressing social, economic, and migration challenges — and connects NRB academics, researchers, and policy experts with institutions in Bangladesh. Its findings inform government policy, public debate, and development programmes through publications, think tank activities, and knowledge-sharing forums. Data and evidence are the foundation’s most important tools.

3

Skills, Employment & Workforce Readiness

The foundation researches global labour market demands and connects that knowledge to skills development in Bangladesh. It links NRB professionals and diaspora employers with training institutions at home, helping design programmes that prepare Bangladeshi workers for international employment. Career guidance, professional certification, and overseas employment preparation are central to this work. Understanding what the world needs from Bangladeshi workers — before training begins — is the foundation’s competitive advantage

4

Migration, Diaspora & Expatriate Services

This foundation researches migration trends, studies the challenges and contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates globally, and connects NRBs and diaspora communities with each other and with Bangladesh. It provides advisory support, policy dialogue, and institutional bridges — so that Bangladeshis living abroad remain meaningfully engaged, supported, and empowered throughout their journey abroad and upon return. Our research informs policy. Our networks create belonging.

5

Health, Telemedicine & Community Wellbeing

The foundation researches health disparities affecting Bangladeshi communities at home and abroad — including the occupational health challenges of overseas workers. It connects NRB doctors, health professionals, and medical researchers with health initiatives in Bangladesh, supporting telemedicine, preventive health campaigns, mental health services, and evidence-based health advocacy. Thousands of Bangladeshi doctors and nurses work in world-class health systems abroad. This foundation brings their expertise home.

6

Women’s Empowerment, Protection & Gender Equality

This foundation conducts research on the barriers women face in Bangladesh — economically, socially, and legally — and connects NRB women leaders, advocates, and professionals with women’s empowerment programmes at home. It supports entrepreneurship, legal protection, and gender equality advocacy, with a particular focus on women migrants and returnees who are among the most vulnerable and most underserved. NRB women who have broken barriers abroad are among the most powerful voices for change at home.

7

Youth Development & Leadership

The foundation studies the aspirations, challenges, and untapped potential of young Bangladeshis — both in Bangladesh and in the diaspora — and builds the connections that unlock that potential. It links second-generation diaspora youth with their homeland peers through leadership programmes, mentorship networks, civic engagement initiatives, and innovation platforms, cultivating a new generation of globally connected Bangladeshi leaders who are equally comfortable in Dhaka and in London, New York, or Dubai.

8

Social Protection, Humanitarian Assistance & Community Development

This foundation researches vulnerability, social exclusion, and community resilience in Bangladesh, and mobilises diaspora resources and expertise in response. It supports humanitarian assistance, disaster preparedness, and community development programmes — channelling NRB generosity, knowledge, and professional skills toward those who need it most, from disaster-affected communities to the elderly, disabled, and marginalised. The diaspora’s capacity to respond in times of crisis is one of Bangladesh’s greatest national assets.

9

Economic Empowerment, Entrepreneurship & Livelihoods

The foundation researches Bangladesh’s economic landscape, SME development challenges, and diaspora investment potential — then acts on what it finds. It connects NRB entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals with enterprise development programmes, returnee livelihood initiatives, and start-up ecosystems in Bangladesh, helping to build an inclusive economy where more people can participate and prosper. NRB business expertise and capital, combined with local energy and talent, is a powerful engine for growth.

10

Financial Inclusion, Microfinance & Cooperative Development

This foundation studies financial exclusion in Bangladesh — who is left out of formal financial systems and why — and connects diaspora financial professionals, remittance senders, and cooperative development experts with grassroots initiatives at home. It promotes financial literacy, savings culture, and the productive channelling of diaspora remittances into community-level economic activity, while advocating for policy environments that expand financial access for all. NRBs send billions home every year. This foundation works to ensure more of that wealth stays and grows in local communities

11

Legal Aid, Governance & Administrative Consultancy

The foundation researches governance gaps affecting migrants, diaspora members, and ordinary Bangladeshis — and provides practical support in navigating complex legal and administrative systems. It connects NRB lawyers, governance professionals, and policy advisors with individuals and institutions in Bangladesh who need legal aid, regulatory guidance, and institutional capacity building. It also facilitates formal liaison between diaspora organisations and the Government of Bangladesh, ensuring that diaspora voices are heard in the rooms where decisions are made.

12

Country Committees, International Cooperation & Global Networks

This foundation builds and governs a structured global network of Country Committees in every major diaspora country — connecting NRBs in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond with each other and with Bangladesh through a single, coordinated institutional framework. It fosters international partnerships, organises global summits and diaspora forums, and ensures that wherever Bangladeshis live and work in the world, they have a trusted institutional home that connects them to each other and to their country of origin.
